Context Shift, Role Shift and Quotation

Abstract/Résumé: Recent theories of context shift in indirect and free indirect discourse have been illuminated by data from sign language, where context shift is sometimes realized overtly by a rotation of the signer's body. We will ask how these new data should constrain the typology of context-shifting operations.
